    Education and Training:


    This program typically involves a combination of on-the-job training and in-class instruction.

    Complete the required number of apprenticeship hours (usually around 9,000 hours) under the supervision of a licensed plumber.


    Trade School:


    Consider enrolling in a plumbing trade school or college program, which can provide additional training and education in plumbing.


    Apprenticeship Registration:


    Register as an apprentice with the Ontario College of Trades(OCOT) now Skilled trades Ontario. and secure an apprenticeship agreement with a licensed plumbing employer. The OCOT was responsible for regulating skilled trades in Ontario, but as of 2019, this organization was dissolved, and trade regulation responsibilities were transferred to other bodies. Ensure you check the current regulatory authority in Ontario for updated information.


    Work Experience:


    Work as an apprentice for the required number of hours (9000), which can take several years to complete (average 5 years).


    School Terms:


    3 terms or levels of inclass education through an accredited college.


    Examination:


    Successfully complete the Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) examination for plumbers. This exam assesses your knowledge and skills in plumbing.


    Licensing:


    After passing the C of Q examination, you can apply for your Certificate of Qualification, which is the provincial license that allows you to work as a licensed plumber in Ontario.
